Haruka has been involved in the entertainment world from the young age of five, acting in television commercials and modeling in magazines. In 1994 she was cast in the NHK television program Karin; this marked Haruka's acting debut.

She was a model for the magazine Pichi Lemon and was known as a pichimo (short for "pichi model"). During this time she began to appear in the U-15 magazine Pure Pure frequently and became a favorite of readers. Haruka played an active part in helping the U-15 system boom.

Haruka was also an Oha Girl, part of Oha in their variety program Oha Star. The project is considered a failed rip-off of the widely popular Hello! Project, as there were several singing groups, even though Oha began before Hello! Project. Haruka was a part of Oha Girl Grape.

In 2006 Haruka was chosen for the role of Bouken Pink/Nishibori Sakura in the sentai series Gougou Sentai Boukenger. Along with Nakamura Chise, who is Bouken Yellow/Mamiya Natsuki, the two are known as Bouken Girls.
